What are you up... now?

The /now page (got the inspiration from the homie Jacky, by way of Derek Siver’s now movement). Currently, home is Oakland, CA. Here’s what I’m doing…

Work

Director of Engineering, Online @ Trilogy Education Services
I left my former role the Growth Team at Coinbase to rejoin the Trilogy Education Services team, this time helping to lead the growth & development of our Online Learning experience.

It was a pleasure learning about cryptocurrency, Risk and Fraud (in my original role), what it means to build high-stakes, highly-available consumer software and the challenges of thriving in a hyper-growth environment.

Instructor, Full Stack Web Development @ UC Berkeley Extension
Instructor of a part-time, 6-month, full stack web development course through the UC Berkeley Extension school. Focused on web development fundamentals, the MERN stack, and some CS fundamentals.

Instructor, Data Visualization Essentials @ UC Berkeley/DraftKings.
I led and taught the Python section of the Data Visualizations course, helping Marketing Analysts learn how to wield Tableau, Python, Jupyter and tools such as numpy, scipy and sklearn to analyze and process data they come across.

Serve

Board Member, Bay Area Inspires Awards
Advising my awesome fellow/advisee on bringing a STEM-focused program on building computers and learning about program via Raspberry Pi, Kano, Scratch and more.

Mentor Coach - 2019 Summer Fellows, CODE 2040.
Returning to the Mentorship community at CODE 2040, I now get to use my experience to learn how to be a better leader by coaching others on their mentorship journey.

Having been a mentor for the Fellows Program from 2014-2016, and being a supporter and community member thereafter, I’m super excited to give back to this quality organization helping make the technology sector more equitable from Black and Latinx engineers.

Learn

Member, O2 Squad, /dev/color.

Blockchain development Self-pacing through an online course on development and adoption of all things blockchain/smart contracts (Ethereum).

4 String Bass Self-paced, learning the 4 string bass through a couple of means, notably Rocksmith 2014, YouTube, and considering private lessons.

Training

for my second ever full marathon in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as well as my upcoming AIDS/Lifecycle ride, raising funds for HIV and AIDS prevention/treatment/support. Consistency is improving but I wouldn’t say I’ve been as discplined as I needed to be (and am currently) about it.

I ended up not riding in the AIDS LifeCycle ride this year. Between some challenges with fundraising and ongoing struggles with training, I decided it was best to live another day and celebrate that I was still able to raise over $2000 for this important charity and initiative.

As for Maratona do Rio? Well, I’ll post a recap for that race soon.

Overall, I currently down 16.1 23.4 ~15 lbs on the year. I’ve been hovering around 240 for awhile, give or take 5 pounds depending on activity, but it’s time I reboot this training and get back on the ball. Still, I’m only ~15 lbs away from my first milestone of 225, on my way back to getting 200 (#roadto200lbs).

I’ve also recently got back to Precision Nutrition’s Level I certification course.
